Oliver Lee Memorial State Park, Day 1

Monday brings another day of school and work. After that, we got to play.

Mary found lots of interesting cacti.

Thorns everywhere

After work, I walked the riparian trail. It is a short trail that leads from the visitor center down into the arroyo, where there is a small flowing stream.

Free flowing water in the desert

After following the stream for a short ways, the water comes to a rather abrupt stop.

That soon disappeared

I’m guessing that it continues underground,  but I’m not sure.

I then hiked a mile up Dog Canyon trail. I wanted to check it out prior to Kathryn and I heading up as the first .6 mile stretch is a bit steep. It’s not all that bad, so I think she and I will be taking a hike tomorrow. You can see for quite a distance from the top of the first rise, including catching a glimpse of White Sands off in the distance.

The Airstream looks even smaller from up here

Overall its been another good day for us.
